Equipment Operator (Maintenance)

Volkswagen is seeking experienced maintenance professionals to be a part of a team that helps bring electric vehicles to Chattanooga!

Summary

Knowledge of the production processes, procedures and methods as well as the technical processes and connections in the area of responsibility. Execution of preventive and minor corrective maintenance and repair work required for the respective production line/work area assigned to.  Assist in TPM from an equipment and cleaning stand point.

Responsibilities
  • TPM - Knows the maintenance intervals in the production area used.  Can carry out TPM measures (for example maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, ...) in the production area according to the regulations.  Can change wear parts if necessary
  • Application technology and conveyor systems- Knows the functionalities of the applied technology in the respective area. Can move the axes independently.  Can adjust robots and correct misalignments (eg calibrate axes). Can adjust weld off position. Can adjust sealer path off position. Can perform parameter changes for optimization (e.g., seam width, temperatures, amount of material).  Can carry out rinse programs. Can perform spray tests. Can change nozzles. Knows the mechanical structure, pneumatics and hydraulics of the relevant systems
  • Commissioning/Decommissioning - Knows the processes of the standardized process during commissioning / decommissioning. Can operate the associated tools (e.g., application tools)  
  • Lockout Tagout - Knows the necessary safety-relevant and electrical effects. Can apply the appropriate locks (permissions)
  • Fault Analysis equipment - Can detect, assess and process plant defects and, if necessary, initiate and define corrective measures.  Can perform nominal / actual analyzes of machines and system parameters.  Can perform a systematic search for faults. Can identify the nature and cause of the fault.  Can estimate the extent of the damage (extent of the damage, expected downtime, ...).  If required (eg greater scope of repair, unsuccessful troubleshooting), can request support from other departments and support them if necessary.
  • Fault Repair - Can dismantle, replace or, if necessary, repair defective components. Can rectify faults with the help of technical documentation.  May initiate the procurement of spare parts of the plant through the relevant departments.  Can check systems for function and safety.  Can document cause of fault, rectification and fault times / downtimes (eg repair report). Can ensure and, if necessary, increase plant availability through preventive measures
  • Part Procurement - Can estimate the availability of spare and wear parts in terms of demand. Can order replacement and wear parts of the system via the relevant specialist departments.
  • Series Evaluation - Knows the common methods and standards for quality analysis (eg visual inspection, corrosion or teardown audit). Can independently detect process errors with regard to coating and, if necessary, initiate measures.  Can evaluate coatings in wet and dry conditions (PVC / SDM) and sealer application. Can carry out a continuous target / actual comparison (process control).
  • Cleanliness & 5S - Knows the structure and layout of the robot / plant. Knows the requirements of the automatic mode / cleaning mode and can operate the robot / system in automatic mode.  Knows the work sequences. Can pack the robot / system with protective covers. Knows the subtleties of the applicators (targeted cleaning). Can pack system parts with protective covers
  • Ensuring Series Production - Knows test methods for corrosion or teardown prevention.  Knows test methods to ensure water-tightness. Can interpret corrosion or teardown audit reports.  Can initiate optimization measures
  • Complaint Analysis -  Can identify the complaints (e.g., under / over coating, coating layer, coating width, coating height, weld off position, cold weld, weld explosions, sealer path off position ...). Knows the relevant methods for complaint analysis (visual inspection).  Can carry out a root cause analysis for the complaints and initiate optimizations if necessary.
Qualifications

Required

  • AAS in Industrial Technology/Engineering Technology or related 2-year degree
  • -Or- 3+ years of industrial/production/electrical maintenance experience

Preferred

  • VW Chattanooga AMP or RTE Program Graduate
  • VW Production Experience
