The internship program at Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations is intended to provide college / university students and recent graduates the opportunity to use and develop skills they have learned in the classroom by working at our state-of-the-art production facility, and to provide Volkswagen Chattanooga the opportunity to develop talent for potential future entry-level positions.

Summary

Our internships are full-time positions (40 hours/week). Candidates will be expected to be available to work during normal business hours (Monday – Friday; exact hours will vary by position and some positions might require work on Saturdays). To be eligible for the internship program, candidates are required to be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary educational institution or have graduated from one within the 6 months prior to the start date of the internship. Candidates who do not meet our guideline will not be considered. This position will start in January and end in May 2025 with a chance for extension through August 2025. Applications for later terms will not be accepted at this time.

Responsibilities

The Industrial Engineering and Production Systems team is responsible for the allocation of direct manpower and directing continuous improvement efforts to work efficiently.  The team promotes implementation and use of the VW Production System (working to standards, ergonomics, 5S, TPM, problem solving, etc.)

As a local intern the applicant shall support the Industrial Engineering and Production System department in activities associated with industrial engineering, new model process development as well as continuous improvement activities.  Exposure to lean manufacturing principles and concepts are expected.

  • Support day-to-day Industrial Engineering activities as needed.
  • Lead and/or support projects in the department supporting productivity improvement
  • Collect data to support workshops and projects
  • Perform time studies as needed of current operations
  • Apply interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with the IE team and achieve common goals.

Qualifications

Required Education: 2+ years completed towards Industrial Engineering or related degree

 

Required Skills

  • Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing systems/processes

Pay

Pay Rates based on level of education:

  • Junior: $18/hour
  • Senior: $20/hour
  • Bachelor’s degree/recent graduate: $24.00
  • Master’s degree/enrolled or recent graduate: $27.00
  • Ph.D. / enrolled or recent graduate: $29.00
